In a decisive move to ensure food safety, authorities in Mazar-e-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province, burned 1000kg of spoiled meat sourced from various parts of the city. The action, conducted by officials from the state slaughterhouse, aimed to prevent the sale and consumption of such hazardous meat in the future.
The supervisory commission formed in Balkh province took charge of collecting and disposing of the rotten meat on Sunday morning. Kazi Attaullah, the head of the state slaughterhouse, emphasized the commission's daily monitoring of butcher shops to curb the sale of bad meat. He assured citizens of Mazar-e-Sharif that steps would be taken to close unhygienic slaughterhouses and ban meat sales from stalls and other unregulated places.
Abdul Hadi Balkhwal, a member of the supervisory commission, highlighted the commission's collaborative effort involving various departments such as Agriculture and Livestock, Municipalities, Environmental Protection, Public Health, and Police Headquarters. He affirmed the commission's commitment to prevent corrupt practices in meat selling and promised legal actions against offenders.
Furthermore, a veterinarian from the Department of Agriculture and Livestock revealed that animals brought to the slaughterhouse undergo a 24-day quarantine period to ensure food safety standards.
